New Exam Format Introduced by CBSE for Classes 6 to 9

To make the review and evaluation system more accommodating for the restoration of the Board's review from 2018 onwards, CBSE has decided to discontinue the Continuous and Full Assessment (CCE) system for grades 6 to 10.

Schools affiliated with CBSE have been following this program since 2009. The system will be replaced by the Uniform Evaluation System for the 2017-18 session. The purpose of this new evaluation system is to standardize teaching and evaluation across various CBSE schools.

Until now, schools affiliated to CBSE have been using different evaluation systems, without synchronization in terms of educational format. With a standardized system in place, students will find it easier to migrate to different schools. The move will also ensure that the 18,688 CBSE schools in India follow a uniform flow of education.
R K Chaturvedi, President of the CBSE, said the Change of Assessment program will help students prepare for the Class 10 Board and Graduate Studies exams. Writing exams for the entire program will be useful for students in the longer term, Chaturvedi added.

What is the Uniform Evaluation System for CBSE?

Structure: Starting with class 6, students will be subjected to a uniform evaluation where all CBSE schools will follow the same model for examinations, newsletters, etc. And will carry the CBSE logo.

Performance sheets: Students in grades 6 to 9 will receive identical ballots. It will include lines specifying the terms, notepad, subject enrichment as well as semiannual / annual marks for each subject with the corresponding notes. The report cards will also present a co-scholastic assessment where the marks will be given on a 3-point scale.
Outcome Format: The format of the grade sheet will change for grade 9 students. They will score in a single year, consisting of periodic exams, subject enrichment, a booklet and an annual examination. For students in class 9, the co-scholastic ranking will be done on a 5-point rating scale.
Weighing: There will be two terms in the uniform evaluation. The paper pen test will be weighted 90%. This will include 80 points of the semester or annual examination and the evaluation scores for the period, 20 points - 10 for each quarter.
Score: The term will be evaluated on 100 points. On the latter, the periodic evaluations will be for 10 points which will be evaluated on the basis of the enrichment of the subjects and the submission of the notebooks (5 points for each).

Syllabus: For students in class 6, the semester exams (duration 1) will be based on the program covered by the end of the term. However, the format of the annual exams will be different and will cover more syllabuses than the first term. This will be 10% for Class 6, 20% for Class 7 and 30% for Class 8.

The CCE program had 2 Summative Assessment at the end of the terms and 4 Formative Assessment (two for each term). As part of this program, paper pen tests had a weighting of 60% and formative evaluations were evaluated at 40%. In addition, a continuous evaluation was carried out by the teachers according to the different activities.
